Within the framework of the official visit, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Rybak met with the mayor of Canada’s capital – Ottawa Jim Watson.
Volodymyr Rybak informed
Jim Watson about the course of
euro-integrational processes in Ukraine
and stressed thereat that “worsening of relations with Russia in the economic sector forces Ukraine
to suspend the process of signing the Association Agreement with the EU.”
Thereat, the Chairman of the Parliament stressed that since Russia is Ukraine’s strategic partner, “we
should reconsider the state of bilateral relations in the economic
sphere.” In this context, Volodymyr Rybak stressed also that “we do not consider the issue of signing the Agreement on accession to the Customs Union.”
He noted that Ukrainian leadership continues working with the European
structures. “I think soon the time comes and we will sign the Association
Agreement with the EU,” he said. In the course of the meeting, Volodymyr Rybak thanked Ottawa mayor for the support of Canadian immigrants from Ukraine.
He spoke also about the necessity to facilitate visa regime for our compatriots for, Volodymyr Rybak believes, Ukrainians should have the possibility to see the life of people in other countries and realize the importance of introduction of high living standards in their country too.
