Among the legislative documents elaborated by the Committee, the Verkhovna Rada adopted in the entirety the Law “On amendments to several legislative acts of Ukraine re refining the system of personal data protection” (No. 383-VII as of 07/03/2013). The law is elaborated in order to determine the Human Rights Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine the authorized body in the sphere of personal data protection. The bill determines a range of Commissioner’s functions in this sphere, and authorizes government to provide transition of the State register of personal data and applications for registration of the personal data basis submitted in prescribed procedure till the enactment of this law to the Commissioner and to predict in the draft laws on the State budget on the respective year expenditures of the Commissioner in the sphere of compliance with legislation on personal data protection.

The Committee also addressed the issue of protection of migrant workers. On July 3, the parliamentary hearing was held entitled “Ukrainian trade migration: state, problems and their solutions.” Proposals of the participants regarding further improvements of legislative regulation in this sphere will be elaborated by the Committee during the third session of Parliament.  

The Committee also organized and held the parliamentary hearing entitled “Compliance with human rights in Ukraine” (June 12), the Committee hearing “Collection and use of person’s personal data in the context of human rights protection”, photographic exhibition dedicated to the World Refugee Day, presentation of publication “Human rights and Parliaments: manual for the members of parliament and the personnel of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine secretariat,” more than 4000 applications of citizens will be considered.   

On April 11, the Committee held visiting session of the Verkhovna Rada in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, where in the procedure of realization of control functions considered the issue of implementation of the State programme of resettlement of deported Crimean Tatars and other nationalities, who returned to live in Ukraine, their adaptation and integration into Ukrainian society until 2015.

The Committee Management held a range of meetings with the representatives of the international organizations working in the sphere of human rights, particularly with:  the regional representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Oldrich Andrysek, the Chief of Mission of the International Organization for Migration Manfred Profazi, the Project Coordinator of the OSCE in Ukraine Madina Dzharbusynova.
