Mykola Tomenko: The Authorities are not ready to impose a Ban on the Privatization of Libraries and Bookshops

Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, appreciates that the bill on amendments to the Law "On Privatization of Small State-Owned Enterprises (Small Privatization)" (on the Ban on Privatization of Premises of the Libraries, Bookshops and State-Owned Publishing Houses)" (Reg. No.5449) was adopted in the first reading on Wednesday.

Commenting on the results of voting, M. Tomenko expressed his doubts that the bill on the ban on privatization of premises of the libraries, bookshops and state-owned publishing houses would be adopted in entirety. "Although an illusion that all the factions would support this issue is cherished, adoption of the bill in entirety may be postponed or not supported by the authorities", he admitted. The Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament drew attention to the fact that the issues on privatization and liquidation of publishing houses and bookshops in Kyiv was raised not only by ‘a young team´ of L. Chernovetskyi, but also by several representatives of the acting authorities.
