Mykola Tomenko: Information, Educational and Social Aspects of the Election Campaign Preparation were neglected by the Bodies in charge of Elections Organization
Visiting polling stations in Cherkasy city and region, Mykola Tomenko declared that one of the biggest problems of these elections was the failure of the Central Election Commission and the local self-government bodies to conduct elucidative work regarding the new election system.
"In fact, the Central Election Commission excluded the system of the local self-government from the election process", M. Tomenko declared and explained that the regional councils had actually not been involved into the election process, while the regional administrations had tackled the principal issues on elections organization.
"Due to the notorious circumstances, regional administrations were occupied with the election campaign of the Party of Regions, while the Central Election Commission failed the election process. It was for the first time in Ukraine that there has been neither the television social advertising, nor the elucidative work to explain the peculiarities of the mixed election system that was used for the first time", the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine admitted.
According to M. Tomenko, this fact caused numerous problems, as many citizens, especially elderly people, could not understand the specifics of the voting mechanism.
"Thus, there is one negative conclusion: information, educational and social aspects of the election campaign preparation were neglected by the bodies in charge of elections organization," he stated.
