Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, calls for a Full-Fledged Realization of the Economic and Social Human Rights

V.Lytvyn opened the exhibition of photos and archival documents "Human Rights in Ukraine: the Past and the Present" organized on the eve of the special meeting of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine dedicated to the 60th anniversary of signing the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms of 1950. V.Lytvyn admitted that when people talk about the human rights in Ukraine, they usually mean political rights.

"However, the socio-economic rights for work, education, healthcare should become of priority," the Head of the Parliament stated. "These are problematic areas." He claimed that these rights are declared, but poorly implemented. V.Lytvyn hopes that speeches of the attendants of the special meeting, especially of the Ombudsperson, will draw attention to these matters.
