Mykola Tomenko: The State shall provide Nursery Schools first of all, only afterwards implement the Compulsory Nursery Education
During the working visit to Poltava, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, took part in the celebration of the City Day.
M. Tomenko conferred V.H. Korolenko Award, and together with the city mayor Andrii Matkovskii opened the children playground. The Deputy Chairman declared that the state should use the experience of the local self-government to renovate the infrastructure of the nursery schools and children leisure time. The Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine appreciated contribution of the city mayor of Poltava and his team into the organization of infrastructure for children "without waiting signals from the high-ranking authorities."
While opening the playground, M. Tomenko presented sports equipment for recreation and physical culture training. Furthermore, on the occasion of 67th anniversary of city liberation from the fascist aggressors, the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine together with the city mayor of Poltava A. Matkovskii took part in the flower-laying ceremony to the Eternal Flame in the Memorial of Soldiers Glory.
Asked about the implementation of the provision on the compulsory nursery education and problems connected with it, M. Tomenko declared that it should have been implemented, however, "there the authorities should guarantee that this norm will be effective only after the state provides 100% nursery schools for children." Thus, Mykola Tomenko is convinced that this norm should be of rather recommendation character than of compulsory one.
