Mykola Tomenko: The Majority of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine intends to fix the Absolute Dates of Elections

In the commentary to UNIAN news agency, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stated that the parliamentary majority cancelled the bill on amendments to the Constitution adopted on October, 8 to fix the dates of the presidential and parliamentary elections.

M.Tomenko admitted that the bill that had been cancelled might have resulted in ambiguous interpretation of the dates of presidential and parliamentary elections. "The President´s team expressed particular discontent with this bill, as the date of the presidential elections could have been interpreted as March 27, 2015," Mykola Tomenko stated.

The Deputy Chairman believes that the President´s team could not curtail a five-year period of the President´s authorities. "The next bill on amendments to the Constitution may fix the dates of the coming presidential and parliamentary elections," he claimed.

As it was reported, today the Parliament cancelled its bill on forwarding the amendments to the Constitution as to the periods of authorities of the President and The Verkhovna Rada to the Constitutional Court.
