Mykola Tomenko: Making the Party of Regions Number One in the Ballot Papers, the Authorities took another Step towards Election Fraud

"Making the Party of Regions number one in the ballot papers, the authorities took another step towards election fraud", Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, declared in Cherkasy.

Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, commented on the information placed in the Party of Regions advertisements - "vote for the Party of Regions, number one in the ballot papers." Asked how the Party of Regions could be placed number one in all the ballot papers throughout the Ukraine, Mykola Tomenko explained: "The Party of Regions is number one in the ballot papers in thousands of town, city and regional councils owing to the ‘democratic´ tools, that is with the assistance of the local authorities, the police and the election commissions".

Mykola Tomenko is convinced that it is a signal for the Ukrainian society and international institutions that the authorities took another step towards election fraud. "Without employment of administrative resource and strict supervision over the election commissions, it would be impossible to register the political party in all the administrative units under the same number", he admitted.

However, Mykola Tomenko sees some positive moments in this incident. "First of all, it means that people and political parties should understand that the acting authorities would do their best to provide necessary voting returns, while the opposition and the public should consolidate in view of the possible election fraud", the politician emphasised.

During the visit to Cherkasy, the Deputy Chairman of he Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine plans to meet the students of Cherkasy Pedagogical University to present his projects and a new cultural portal "Ridna Kraina" (Native Ukraine) (www.ridna.org).
