Mykola Tomenko: Ukraine should celebrate the 140th Anniversary of Birth of a Prominent Ukrainian Poetess at the National Level
Today, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed the draft resolution "On Celebration of the 140th Anniversary of Birth of Lesia Ukrainka (Larysa Petrivna Kosach-Kvitka), Prominent Ukrainian Poetess and Public Figure (25.02.2011)."
The given draft resolution was registered by Adam Martyniuk and Mykola Tomenko, People´s Deputies of Ukraine. The document sets up the organization committee, and ratifies the action plan on the celebration of the anniversary of Lesia Ukrainka in Yalta town; organization of thematic exhibitions; facilitation of publication of a twelve-volume book of Lesia Ukrainka´s works (1975-79); organization of thematic television and radio programs, etc.
Mykola Tomenko, co-author of the draft resolution, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, declared: "Despite the recognition and fame of Lesia Ukrainka in Ukraine and all over the world, her creative works, life views and values still remain unknown. Our idea envisages appropriate presentation of her world view and creative achievements."
