Mykola Tomenko: The Incident with Bukovel Ski Resort is a Negative Example of how the Image of Ukraine can be spoilt on the Eve of the Winter Tourist Season
Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, believes that the incident with Bukovel ski resort is a negative example of how the image of Ukraine can be spoilt on the eve of the winter tourist season. Commenting upon the situation with Bukovel ski resort, M.Tomenko stated: "I can hardly name the initiator of the public ‘showdown´ concerning Bukovel, but it looks like subversion against Ukraine on the eve of the winter tourist season."
The Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine drew attention to the fact that Ukraine had started to promote its winter tourist potential in 2007, when Viktor Yanukovych was a Prime Minister. He reminded that Mykhailo Kulyniak, the then Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, acting Minister, presented the advertising campaign "Ukraine welcomes", demonstrating promo videos about winter recreation "Ukraine. For those in Love with the Snow" at the foreign EuroNews and NGC TV channels. UAH 8,5 million were allocated from the budget to form the positive tourist image of Ukraine.
"As far as I understand, the acting Government is also considering the opportunity of advertising the winter tourist potential of Ukraine at the foreign channels. Given the President´s initiative to organize the Winter Olympics in Ukraine, the incident with Bukovel ski resort is nothing else but subversion against the Ukraine´s image in the world," the Deputy Chairman summed up.
