On 10 April 2024, the Subcommittee on Adaptation of Ukrainian Legislation to the Provisions of the European Union Acquis, Implementation of Ukraine's International Legal Obligations in the Field of European Integration discussed the provisions of the European integration draft law “On Grapes and Viticulture Products” (Reg. No. 9139), which is being prepared for consideration in the second reading.

The draft law proposes to provide Ukrainian farmers with equal conditions for the production and circulation of wines with geographical indications, similar to the current rules in the EU, which will facilitate the entry of Ukrainian wine products into international markets. The project will also have a positive impact on improving the quality of wine products; protecting domestic producers; and eliminating factors that distort competition and the traceability of grape and wine products from vine to bottle.

The participants discussed, among other things, the final provisions of the draft law, the application of the Law of Ukraine “On Administrative Procedure” and the legal framework for liability for violations of the legislation in the field of viticulture and winemaking provided for by this draft law.

The meeting was attended by Oleksandr Haidu, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy, Maryna Nikitina, the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Adaptation of Ukrainian Legislation to the EU Acquis and Implementation of Ukraine's International Legal Obligations in the Field of European Integration, Oleksandr Starynets, the Head of the Committee's Secretariat, Taras Vysotskyi, the First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, and EU Project experts.
