Ukraine has been and remains in the center of attention at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The President Volodymyr Zelenskyi's “Peace Formula” is the top topic this year. At the same time, participants are discussing increasing economic pressure on russia and increasing support for Ukraine.
This was stated by Olena Khomenko, the MP, Member of the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, Chair of the PACE Ad Hoc Committee on the situation of Ukrainian children.
“Davos is actively discussing the points of the plan of the Ukrainian “Peace Formula”. The fact that over 80 representatives of states and international organizations attended this year's meeting of advisors in Davos may indicate the increased support for the President's plan. For comparison, there were 66 participants at a similar meeting in Malta, and 16 at the first meeting in Copenhagen. Another important achievement is that from today, Ukraine and Switzerland will begin preparations for the first Global Peace Summit at the level of leaders. In addition, such important topics as the return of children abducted by russia, strengthening of sanctions against the aggressor, search for mechanisms for Ukraine to use frozen russian assets, as well as cooperation on humanitarian demining and financial support for our country and its restoration,” the parliamentarian noted.
According to her, the International Economic Forum also hosts many bilateral meetings of the Ukrainian delegation with state leaders, representatives of the EU and NATO.
“Such events are very important in order to maintain the dynamics of our European integration and movement towards NATO, to strengthen Ukraine's defense and economic stability. In particular, the President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to discuss the strengthening of air defense and the provision of long-range missiles. The United States remains our reliable partner, and we see their readiness to continue to help Ukraine,” the MP said.
She added that the whole world is now seeing examples of the successful use of the provided weapons by our military, in particular, repulsing massive missile attacks. All this gives grounds to assert that the support will continue and even increase.
Olena Khomenko is convinced that the fact that russia is once again not invited to an event of such a scale as the Davos Forum indicates that complete international isolation of the aggressor country is inevitable.
“Together with increased sanctions pressure and freezing of russian assets, this will definitely weaken russia. At the same time, we constantly emphasize that our partners must do more. Conditions must be created to make it absolutely impossible for russia to circumvent the sanctions,” the politician summarized.
