On January 17, 2024, a meeting of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation took place, during which draft laws aimed at bringing the legal framework of Ukraine in line with national interests were considered, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine was informed about Ukraine's strategy for reforming the UN, in particular the UN Security Council, and work was continued to expand the inter-parliamentary dialogue and planning of the Committee's work.
The Committee members discussed the measures taken to implement Ukraine's policy within the UN, in particular in the UN General Assembly and Security Council, the UN Human Rights Council and the UN Committee against Torture, and to counteract the election of representatives of the russian federation to senior positions in the UN specialized agencies. The discussion emphasized the importance of using the mechanisms of parliamentary diplomacy to discredit the status of the russian federation as a UN member state, to remove it from the Organization and to promote Ukraine's position on UN reform.
During the discussion of the draft Law on the Termination of the Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the republic of belarus on the Promotion and Mutual Protection of Investments (No. 0238, CMU) and the draft Law on Withdrawal from the Agreement on the Principles of Indirect Taxes during the Export and Import of Goods (Works , Services) between the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (No. 0239, CMU), the members of the Committee drew the attention of responsible representatives of central executive authorities to the need to provide information on the impact of the implementation of draft laws on the protection of the rights and interests of Ukrainian citizens abroad.
At the meeting, the Committee approved the Tentative Work Plan of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation and Proposals to the Draft Agenda of the Eleventh Session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the Ninth Convocation for February – July 2024.
The Committee members also approved the Tentative Plan of International Exchanges of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for 2024.
