The adoption by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe of a resolution calling for the seizure of frozen russian assets and their use for the benefit of Ukraine is of great strategic importance for our country. This is a political decision that will be further implemented at the level of individual states that support Ukraine.
This was stated by Olena Moshenets, the MP, Deputy Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Anti-Corruption Policy, member of the Permanent Delegation to PACE.
“This decision is still at the political level, but the political mechanism must be implemented in specific economic decisions at the level of each country. We already have precedents when PACE became the driving force behind certain decisions. For example, this concerns the register of losses, which has already started working,” the MP said.
She added that the Ukrainian delegation to PACE urged colleagues from different countries to appeal to their governments to ensure that the decision is implemented.
“Each country will make progress in this area, as different countries have different property laws. But the main thing is that this decision has been supported and we will continue to look for tools to implement it. It is very important that all countries have agreed that it is necessary to use russian assets to rebuild Ukraine,” the MP said.
According to her, the Ukrainian delegation is also working to make the most of the PACE platform to promote our agenda.
“We will talk about ecocide. This is a new word in European diplomacy. Everyone has the right to a clean environment and a clean future. We will talk about the Kerch bridge, the mining of our fields, the explosions in the Black Sea, which affect environmental changes, the environment not only of Ukraine but also of our neighbours. We hope that this resolution will be supported,” the politician stressed.
