The Chairman of the Committee on Law Enforcement Serhii Ionushas, the Deputy Chairperson of the Committee / Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Halyna Mykhailiuk, members of the Committee – MPs Oleksandra Ustinova and Oleksandr Danutsa held a series of meetings in Ottawa
The members of the delegation met with Bill Blair, Minister of National Defence of Canada, former Chief of the Toronto Police Service, and discussed the following issues:
- the transfer of Canadian-made weapons to Ukraine, including armoured vehicles, as well as the purchase of other necessary weapons and ammunition from partner countries;
- Canada’s active participation in coalitions of tanks, aircraft and drones;
- increasing production capacity in the Canadian military sector and investing in Ukraine's defence industry;
- training of Ukrainian military personnel within the framework of Operation UNIFIER;
- cooperation in cybersecurity to jointly counter threats.
The members of the delegation expressed gratitude for Canada’s military and technical support, as well as for the bilateral security agreement, stressing that this is an important contribution of Canada to Ukraine's victory and global security. The MPs called for further development of the dialogue in the field of security and defence at the highest level.
The Minister of National Defence of Canada noted that today Ukraine is guarding the security and stability of the entire democratic world. Canada will support Ukraine until victory.
The delegation also met with the Canadian Forces Ombudsman Gregory Lick.
The members of the delegation learnt about the principles of work and activities of the Ombudsman’s Office in independent monitoring of the rights of military personnel and civilian security sector employees.
