The energy system is under constant threat of russian shelling. The answer to this threat should be the creation of a distributed power generation network. Such a network should consist of hundreds of small power plants, which will help our energy system diversify generation and protect energy facilities from large-scale damage.

“In Ukraine, a few power plants and a dozen substations still account for half of all electricity generation and transmission. Of course, 5-10 large power plants are easy targets for the enemy. When we have hundreds of small power plants, it will be almost impossible to fire missiles at these facilities,” said Andrii Gerus, the Chairman of the Committee on Energy, Housing and Utilities, on Ukrainian Radio.

Small power plants are located at a short distance from the consumer, providing electricity to municipal infrastructure, budgetary institutions, organisations and/or individual homes.

“We are working to change the architecture of the energy grid. Many solar power plants are currently being installed. In addition, a large number of gas-fired power plants are being installed. The new configuration will help increase the resilience and flexibility of the power system and provide electricity to consumers under martial law,” added the Committee Chairman.
