The sowing campaign is underway in Ukraine. Despite the rather unsuccessful last season for traditional industrial or grain crops, everyone is sowing, hoping for a fair price for agricultural products this year to reach at least a minimum profitability. At the same time, European countries want to see our products that are tasty and affordable.

This was stated by Dmytro Solomchuk, the MP and member of the Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy.

“We are increasing our sown areas, including in the de-occupied territories, by clearing land. The most difficult situation is on the land near the frontline, but farmers work there even under fire, particularly in Kharkiv and Kherson regions. Our farmers hope for a fair price for agricultural products this year. It is important that buyers in Europe want to see Ukrainian products that are tasty, affordable and of high quality. Despite the blockade of the border, they will still buy it by shipping it through other countries. Therefore, Polish farmers should understand that the methods of competition are not blocking, but the quality of products, improvement of technologies and processing,” the politician said.

According to him, no drastic changes in food prices are expected in the domestic market in the near future.

“The number of regional craft producers is growing: they have started to produce their own oil, dairy products, etc. In the central and western regions of Ukraine, many small farms have emerged during the war, with 100-200,000 chickens each, competing with large producers in terms of quality and price. Such enterprises are quite successful, as there were problems with grain exports, so there was an available feed base in Ukraine,” the MP said.

He added that there are now some positive developments in the negotiations with the Poles on the border blockade. A dialogue has started between associations and businesses, so perhaps we will be able to find a solution sooner, as the blockade is not good for the economy, both for the Polish side and for ours.
