On 23 February 2024, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation Oleksandr Merezhko met with representatives of the Acione party in the Senate and Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Italian Republic Carlo Calendo and Ettore Rosato.
The participants of the meeting discussed topical issues of global and European politics, including the upcoming US elections, the current security and humanitarian situation in Ukraine, strengthening military and technical assistance to Ukraine, providing economic assistance and reconstruction of the affected regions of Ukraine, rehabilitation of Ukrainian servicemen, strengthening sanctions pressure and the possibility of using russian frozen assets to help Ukraine.
Special attention during the meeting was paid to Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration on the eve of the Washington NATO Summit, as well as the prospects of Ukraine's accession to the European Union. In addition, the Italian MPs informed about the initiative to support the restoration of the destroyed infrastructure in Odesa.
The Committee Chairman Oleksandr Merezhko expressed his gratitude to his Italian colleagues for their comprehensive support and stressed the importance of continuing to provide economic and military-technical support from partners to save lives.
