The Ukrainian and European parliamentarians discussed the support of Ukraine by the representatives of the European parliaments in its fight against the russian aggressor, accelerating the purchase of necessary weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the next steps in expanding and strengthening sanctions against russia, confiscation of frozen russian assets, taking decisive measures to prevent rewriting history by new warmongers, supporting the Peace Formula of the President of Ukraine, and establishing even greater communication between Ukrainian and European parliamentarians.
The participants of the meeting stressed that the continuation of assistance is critical not only for Ukraine, but also in the national interests of the EU and NATO member states. “If russia is not defeated, it will use Ukraine's territory and resources to attack European countries,” the parliamentarians said.
Representatives of the European parliaments informed the Ukrainian MPs that they appeal to the EU to significantly increase the Ukraine Facility to finance Ukraine's budget and economic recovery, and to increase European arms production more quickly and support the Armed Forces of Ukraine by purchasing military equipment, especially ammunition.
During a solidarity visit to Ukraine on 23-24 February 2024, the delegation of the informal parliamentary association United for Ukraine strongly condemned russia's unprovoked, illegal, terrorist and unjustified war of aggression against Ukraine, the illegal occupation of Ukrainian territories in flagrant violation of international law and human rights, aimed at destroying the Ukrainian statehood and the Ukrainian people, and stressed that they would never recognise russia's illegal attempts to annex part of Ukrainian territory, and fully support the goals of the United for Ukraine.
Ukrainian parliamentarians expressed gratitude to their European colleagues for their work and support for Ukraine.
The Chairmen of the Foreign Affairs Committees and representatives of the global parliamentary network United for Ukraine adopted a statement expressing their deep respect and admiration for Ukraine's heroic defence and shared democratic values as the Ukrainian people continue to show incredible strength and resilience in their determination to fight back.
European parliamentarians believe that Ukraine's decisive victory is important for European and global security. “We share Ukraine's view that everything necessary, including timely military, economic, political and humanitarian assistance, should be provided to Ukraine to achieve its early victory in the war without any restrictions, and to prevent further destruction of global security,” the statement reads.
In conclusion, the members of the parliamentary delegations stressed that the long-term commitment of continuous military support remains indispensable. Delays and strategic uncertainty only help global autocracies to pursue aggressive foreign policies, including the use of military means.
