The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has adopted a resolution on the situation of children in Ukraine. In particular, the document calls on the member states of the Council of Europe to recognize the deportation of Ukrainian children by russia as genocide. It is also proposed to extend sanctions for participation in the forced deportation of our children to the propagandists involved in these crimes.
This was stated by Olena Khomenko, the MP, member of the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, Vice President of PACE and Chair of the PACE Ad Hoc Committee on the situation of Ukrainian children.
“This resolution was voted unanimously, and this is another confirmation that here in PACE there is no fatigue from Ukraine, no weakening of attention to Ukrainian issues: both children deported from Ukraine and internally and externally displaced children,” the parliamentarian noted.
According to her, the document calls on partners to join in and help establish the whereabouts of Ukrainian children deported by russia, return them to Ukraine and impose sanctions not only on putin and lvova-belova, but on all those involved in these crimes.
“We know that there is a whole network in russia that helps abduct Ukrainian children. We have also called for sanctions to be imposed on all journalists involved in promoting and justifying russia in committing these crimes. In addition, if a russian citizen illegally adopts a child, Ukraine should be notified of the fact that such a person crossed the border,” the MP said.
She emphasized that the resolution clearly states that we are open and want to cooperate and interact with international organizations whose mandates relate to human rights, so that they can join and help Ukraine in returning children.
“First of all, we need to find out where the children are, get full information about them, their health status, and return them. I am convinced that the more pressure our partners put on russia, the more russia is isolated, the more compliant it will be in returning Ukrainian children,” the politician summarized.
