Today, on January 25, 2024, a joint meeting of the subcommittees on adaptation of Ukrainian legislation to the provisions of the European Union acquis, fulfillment of Ukraine's international legal obligations in the field of European integration and on pricing and development of foreign economic activity in the agro-industrial complex was held in the format of a round table to discuss the provisions of the European integration draft law on grapes and viticulture products (reg. No. 9139), which is being prepared for consideration in the second reading.

Oleksandr Haidu, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy, welcomed the participants.

During the speeches, it was noted that Ukraine, having committed itself to implementing EU legislation, in particular in the wine industry, should bring norms, standards and rules for this area to the legislative level.

This draft law provides for the harmonization of sectoral legislation with the requirements of international rules for the production of viticulture and winemaking products and the implementation of the provisions of Regulations (EU) No 1308/2013, No 251/2014, No 2019/33, No 2018/274, No 2021/2117 and Regulation (EU) No 2018/273 on viticulture and winemaking, oenological practices, and the production of flavored wine products, the use and protection of geographical indications of wines, flavored wine products, and control in the field of viticulture and winemaking, as well as the creation of favorable conditions for the development of business entities of all forms of ownership and the production of high-quality products, in particular, those with special properties due to natural conditions and the human factor of the territory of origin.

The participants of the roundtable discussed the controversial provisions of the draft law on terms and definitions, classification of grape varieties and requirements for the production of viticulture and winemaking products, flavored wine products, some practices and restrictions in the European Union, requirements for the production and circulation of wines, viticulture and winemaking products, flavored wine products with geographical indications in accordance with current rules in the EU, as well as the mandatory introduction of a transition period for the adaptation of the industry.

Representatives of the Committee are grateful to all participants of the event for their participation in the round table, constructive discussion of the problematic issues of the draft law and proposals on ways to resolve them and look forward to further fruitful cooperation with industry representatives.
