The Assembly member Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger (Germany, the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe) who came forward as a candidate for the post of a Co-Rapporteur of the Monitoring Committee on Ukraine was also present at the meeting. The said vacancy appeared due to demission of H. Severinsen, the member of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly.
Ivan Popesku, the Chairman of Ukrainian Delegation, stated that the PACE monitoring in Ukraine has always been accomplished with concord and understanding. He also expressed his expectation that such approach will soon enable transition to the post-monitoring cooperation between Ukraine and the Council of Europe. He highly appreciated activity of H. Severinsen as a Co-Rapporteur and stated that her bestowal with the Order of Merit by the President of Ukraine declares considerable contribution of the Co-Rapporteur in development of Ukrainian State.
H.Severinsen promised to render any assistance to her successors.
R.Wohlwend assured the audience that the Monitoring Committee strives to switch over to the post-monitoring dialogue with Ukraine, provided our State implements the following commitments: completion of the Constitutional and legal procedure reforms, reforming of prosecuting magistracy and adoption of the Criminal Procedural Code. The Co-Rapporteur also expressed her expectations that Ukraine will join the process, initiated by the Venice Commission adoption of the Single Electoral Code.
Serhiy Sobolev, the member of Ukrainian Delegation, dwelled on the equal relations between Ukraine and European States regarding securing the rights of Ukrainian migrant workers, citizens´ freedom of movement, and equal access to entrepreneurship.
I.Popesku, the Chairman of Ukrainian Delegation, assured the Co-Rapporteurs that Ukraine will thoroughly realize its commitments assumed before the Council of Europe. He also emphasized importance of active State participation whilst implementing the ratified acts of European legislation, namely: the European Social Charter, the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages, the European Convention for the Protection of National Minorities.
