The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada, A. Yatseniuk, forwarded an Official Letter to B. Komorowski, Marshal of the Sejm of The Republic of Poland, with a Request to contribute to the expeditious signing and ratification of the Agreement on Small Trans-Border Movement.
The Leader of Ukrainian Parliament stated in his Letter that Ukraine attaches great importance to the neighbourly and partner relations with The Republic of Poland. Underpinning these, according to A.Yatseniuk, is a well thought-out and mutually reciprocal approach to the needs of the citizens of both countries.
He described the need for the optimal resolution of the Trans-border cooperation issue as a priority of the bilateral dialogue which has become the subject matter of a Commission set up within the framework of the Ukraine/Poland Inter-parliamentary Assembly.
The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada emphasized that the urgency of this issue was highlighted in the Declaration of the Development of Trans-border Co-operation, adopted in the outcome of The Ukrainian/Polish Bilateral Assembly in Kyiv on 30 March 2007.
Since Poland has recently joined the Shengen zone, an Agreement on the Local Trans-border Movement Rules, between The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and The Government of The Republic of Poland should, according to A. Yatseniuk, evolve into an important tool for improving the situation in this area. ‘In view of the above, I am asking you, Most Respected Colleague, to assist us in every way possible in the expeditious preparation, signing and subsequent ratification of the said Agreement by The Polish Parliament´, says the Letter.
The Chairman of The Ukrainian Parliament expressed his belief that co-operation between Ukraine and The Republic of Poland at all levels, ‘will continue to develop further for the benefit of our friendly peoples´.
