“We are grateful to the United Nations for supporting the processes that will bring peace back to Ukraine,” – Dmytro Razumkov

The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Razumkov met with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo.

Dmytro Razumkov noted that he does appreciate the cooperation with the United Nations and hopes for continuing constructive collaboration, especially under Ukraine’s sweeping reforms.

The speaker stressed that currently there is a consolidated position of all Ukraine’s branches of government in implementing the reforms, and thanked the UN representatives for the support of their promoting.

Dmytro Razumkov informed the audience about the recent renewing the Law of Ukraine No.2569 "On the special order of local self-government in certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts" and then drew R. DiCarlo’s attention that elections in the temporarily occupied territories ought to be held as per Ukrainian law in accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine and, of course, only after the ceasefire arrangements are in place.

In his opinion, great attention should be paid to reintegration of Ukrainian citizens, too.

In her turn, Rosemary DiCarlo gave a positive assessment to the situation in Ukraine, the state of conducting reforms and the steps taken towards realization of peace.

She also assured of the UN's readiness to support Ukraine, including during the forthcoming elections.
