Congratulations of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Razumkov on the 30th Anniversary of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine
Dear Ukrainians!
Thirty years ago, on May 15, 1990, the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR of the 12th convocation began to function, which later became the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the 1st convocation. Since then, the Ukrainian legislature began to function.
The beginning of this Parliament was the first step towards the proclamation of Ukraine's independence. Even then, the organ made crucial and life-changing decisions that defined the development of our country as a democratic state in which the rights and freedoms of citizens, freedom of speech, religion and the rule of law are inviolable.
Even then, the principles of political pluralism were laid down in the Verkhovna Rada: two blocs of parliamentarians were formed - the parliamentary majority and the opposition.
One of the first state-building steps was the laws "On the State Border of Ukraine" of November 4, 1991 and "On Citizenship of Ukraine" of October 8, 1991. In January-February 1992, resolutions of the Verkhovna Rada defined the state symbols - the National Anthem, the National Flag and the small coat of arms of Ukraine - the Tryzub.
In five years, the first parliament passed more than 1,500 pieces of legislation. But perhaps the most important achievement was that on July 16, 1990, when the Verkhovna Rada adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine, as well as on August 24, 1991 - the Act of Independence of Ukraine.
It was the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine that completed the formation of the legislative system of our country, identified the priorities for international development of the state, established successful cooperation with foreign parliaments and international organizations.
Plenty of tasks do we have ahead of us, and I am convinced that the
Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the ninth convocation will make a significant
historical contribution to the formation of Ukraine.
