The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko joined the event “A decade of transformation towards a virtuous future: implementation of anti-corruption and rule of law reforms in Ukraine with the support of the EU”

The participants discussed the progress of the reforms and their results.

“As a candidate country for membership in the European Union, we must accelerate the pace of reforms. Over the past ten years, not only the anti-corruption infrastructure has changed, but also people – the expectations of society from the government and politicians have become much higher,” the First Vice Speaker stressed.

At the same time, Oleksandr Korniienko noted that there is another side to the situation – Ukraine's accession to the European Union, which also has certain expectations, including transparency and accountability.

Regarding the role of the Parliament on this track, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed that the Parliament of Ukraine has demonstrated a high enough capacity to make European integration decisions, and this level will be maintained and strengthened. “Many political forces have realised the existential challenges and responsibility to both the country and the entire nation on the path to EU membership,” he added.

In conclusion, the First Vice-Speaker expressed his gratitude to the partners, in particular, the European Union, for their support of reforms in the rule of law and the fight against corruption in Ukraine.
