“The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine shall back up the Government's legislative initiatives aimed at strengthening the fight against smuggling,” – Andriy Parubiy

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will support legislative initiatives aimed at strengthening the fight against smuggling.  This was stated by the Verkhovna Rada’s Chairman Andriy Parubiy at a briefing during the Third Local Development Forum in Truskavets.

The head of the Parliament observed that he fully shared the Prime Minister’s stance "that the executive branch should more precisely coordinate the issue of combating smuggling".

"The government is forging ahead with the legislative initiatives, but this process is rather a question of the executive branch," said A.Parubiy.  There should be a multipronged approach - not only a direct control over customs, but also a great deal of the needfull analytical work".

In Parubiy’s opinion, the executive power should carry out a comprehensive work in general, involving various services of the ministry.

"The Prime Minister and the Government are beginning to take joint systematic steps to combat smuggling, and if there is a need for a severer punishment for smuggling at a legislative level, I am convinced that the Parliament will support any lawgiving initiatives of the Government to stiffen the fight againt smuggling," said A.Parubiy.
