Andriy Parubiy: Ukrainian-Romanian interstate dialogue will further be friendly, open and constructive

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Andriy Parubiy, has met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Ukraine, Cristian-Leon ?urcanu, who has recently started his tenure in Ukraine.

The sides exchanged ideas as to the Ukrainian-Romanian interstate relations, in particular, noted the necessity for deeper interparliamentary dialogue.

"Ukraine highly appreciates consistent and principled position of Romania on support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as on condemnation of Russia's ongoing aggression against our state," the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada said.

Andriy Parubiy thanked Romania for non-recognition of the parliamentary election to the State Duma (the lower house of the Federal Assembly of Russia (legislature) held in the territory of the Russia-annexed Crimea. Respective statement was made by the Romania's Foreign Affairs Ministry on September 17.

Discussing the issue of the Ukraine - European Union Association Agreement, Andriy Parubiy said that Ukraine welcomed the support of Romania, which was one of the first countries to ratify the Association Agreement.

Besides, Andriy Parubiy expressed gratitude to the Romanian side for assistance in and rehabilitation of anti-terrorist operation participants, as well as for organization of recreation trips to Romania for Ukrainian children.

In speaking of cooperation between Ukraine and Romania at the international level, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada informed the Ambassador about his initiative to hold meetings in the format of the interregional cooperation of the Baltic-Black Sea Union and expressed confidence that such cooperation has considerable potential.

In turn, Mr. Cristian-Leon ?urcanu noted remarkable prospects in the Ukrainian-Romanian relations. He said that the duty of the two countries is to support stability and security as no country development would be possible without these two components.

The parties confirmed their intention to deepen Ukrainian-Romanian dialogue on the basis of friendly, open and constructive basis.

Andriy Parubiy wished the Ambassador interesting and fruitful work in Ukraine.
