In the course of panel discussion entitled “Geopolitical, economic and humanitarian consequences of suspending welfare payments in Donbas” and organized by Kyiv office of Kennan Institute at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, Hryhorii Nemyria called on Ukrainian authority to secure rights and freedoms of the citizens who remained on the occupied part of Donbas.

“These are our citizens, Ukrainians, and we should take care of them,” stressed the Committee Chair.

According to him, the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 595 of November 7 will have negative consequences not only for 3,5 million of Ukrainian citizens who remained on the occupied part of Donbas, but for the entire state.

“This intensifies situation across Ukraine and decreases the number of people who deem themselves citizens of Ukraine,” noted H.Nemyria.

In connection with this, he called on to consider mechanisms of targeted assistance, including providing social services to the citizens who remained in Donbas, within the framework of OSCE, UN, the Council of Europe, the Red Cross and other international organizations.

Graduates of Fulbright-Kennan Institute Research Programs, famous political analysts, economists and international experts also participated in the discussion.
