The paper had been approved on December 17, clued in the chair while opening the morning session on Tuesday, December the 18th.
A.Parubiy stressed that the General Assembly of the United Nations had condemned the growing Russian military presence in the said seas.
The text of the resolution openly designates Russia to be “the occupying Power”. The document also stresses that the presence of Russian troops in the Crimea is contrary to the national sovereignty, political independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine and, - which is very important – undermines the security and stability of neighbouring countries and the European region on the whole.
“The United Nations General Assembly calls upon the Russian Federation to release the vessels and their crews and equipment unconditionally and without delay,” underlined the parliament’s chairperson, and then added: “The resolution condemns the Russian Federation’s construction and opening of the Kerch Strait bridge and its harassment of commercial vessels and restriction of international shipping there”.
A.Parubiy underscored that the UN resolution urges the Russian Federation as the occupying Power, to withdraw its military forces from the Crimea and to end its temporary occupation of Ukraine’s territory without delay.
“We value highly such a stance of the United Nations General Assembly. It is another victory of Ukraine and its diplomacy,” emphasized the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine A.Parubiy.
