The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy opened the Conciliation Board meeting on Tuesday.

Opening the event, the politician congratulated the participants on the Holy and Sacred Ecumenical Patriarchate Synod’s decision on forthcoming granting of autocephaly to the Local Orthodox Ukrainian Church.

“I congratulate everyone here with the synodal decision that announces commencement of the process of granting of the ecclesiastical status of autocephaly to the Local Orthodox Ukrainian Church. The decision’s most important moment is cancellation of the Synodal “Act” or “Letter of Issue” dated June, 1686. That was a mere annexation not only of the church - it was a barefaced attempt to grab the memory, history and spirituality.  Historical truth has triumphed, as it always happens with any empire,” stated the Chairman at the very off of the sitting.

I sincerely hope that the All-Ukrainian Orthodox Synod will take place in Kyiv in the immediate future, in which all the Hierarchs-patriots of Ukraine are to participate, that shall proclaim the formation of the Unified Local Orthodox Ukrainian Church.

I am convinced that after the unifying council in Kyiv, His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew I shall confer the Tomos of Autocephaly to the Primate of the Local Orthodox Ukrainian Church,” he added.

Talking to those “who used to say that a state must not meddle in spiritual matters”, the Speaker just flashed up a well-known fact that in Russia there had been called an ad hoc “talking shop” of the national security and defence council to have deliberations over the said Constantinople's resolution. Additionally, news came yesterday that the Russian Orthodox Church is set to sever links with Constantinople, the body seen as the spiritual authority of the world’s Orthodox Christians. In fact, through its totally controlled religious organization the Kremlin engineers an international religious conflict between the Orthodox churches”.

“The ongoing granting of the Tomos has become accomplishable through the Verkhovna Rada’s appeal to the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I. Thus, I’d like to sincerely thank those patriotically-minded parliamentarians who supported the appeal,” stressed A.Parubiy.

"We continue to fight for the creation of our Unified Local Ukrainian Orthodox Church.  I call on patriotic members of the parliament to unite around this important issue.  I would like to express my gratitude to the President of Ukraine, who made incredible efforts for this decision to be realized and made by the Ecumenical Patriarch. This matter is also a question of our national security.  This is an issue of establishing the statehood of Ukraine".
