Updating the Central Election Commission’s staff is one of the key tasks that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine must perform during this plenary week,”Andriy Parubiy

This was stated by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine while opening the morning plenary meeting on Tuesday.

"Updating the staff of the commission is our joint commitment, it is our joint responsibility," stressed the  politician. "The renewed CEC is a basic precondition for the legitimacy of the next both presidential and parliamentary elections".

A.Parubiy pointed out that in order to resolve the CEC situation he had submitted and registered a draft bill No.9090 enlarging the CEC’s bench up to 17 members. The head of the parliament expressed his conviction that this is the optimal and correct way of solving the staff-update problem associated with the Central Election Commission, whose term of office ended four years ago for the most part.

According to the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, "the bill is aimed at ensuring the representation of political forces at the Central Election Commission, which will be in line with the recommendations set forth by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe concerning proportional representation of parliamentary political forces in central election commissions".

As per A.Parubiy, another important issue of the plenary day is adoption of agenda for the current, ninth, plenary session.
