“There is a vast support of the Carpathian region development conception at the Ukrainian Parliament,” – A.Parubiy

The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy took park in the Third Local Development Forum in Truskavets.

At the plenary discussion "The Development Policy for the Carpathians", Andriy Parubiy emphasized the importance of parliamentary diplomacy as an essential component of the regional cooperation.

"The successful experience of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Ukraine-Poland-Lithuania has inspired us to create a new format - the Ukraine-Georgia-Moldova Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, which we finally launched a fortnight ago in Kyiv," said the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

The Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament emphasized that "we have common issues, and first of all, in the sphere of security, because our three countries have suffered a Russian aggression and a partly occupation".  "Everyone, from the Baltic Rim to Georgia, feels that if Ukraine fails to resist the Russian aggression, Eastern Europe will not stand either," he stressed.

The issues of the local economic and infrastructure development were said to be also of great importance on the common voyage to the European Union.

The Chairman of the Parliament noted that along with these initiatives, underway was the work on creating a joint parliamentary platform for the implementation of the Nine Carpathian States Development Strategy.

According to the top-echelon politician, in addition to the international one, the Ukrainian Carpathians aid home programme is successfully implemented, which "in no way is in conflict with the said international initiatives, but has a distinct significant advantage - it can be implemented much faster".

“There is a wide support of the Carpathian region development conception at the Ukrainian Parliament,” underscored A.Parubiy.

The conferees thanked the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada for his active support of the projects within the Carpathian Communities Support Program, which have already received significant funding from the Ukrainian Government and the European Commission.
