Chairman’s Commemoration Day address Andriy Parubiy gives his address on the occasion of the Day of Commemoration of the Revolution of Dignity and the Heavenly Hundred Heroes

( Information Department of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariat )

My dear fellow Ukrainians!

Four years have passed since 20 February 2014, the day of Tragedy and Heroic Deed.

Back then, the lives of our closest ones were given for a dignified future of tens of millions and freedom of the whole country. So many years after the Maidan events, the experience remains rooted in our memory.

During the Maidan, millions of Ukrainians defined and confirmed our greatest aspiration for a free and decent life.

The revolution has changed us beyond recognition and marked the beginning of irreversible changes in Ukraine. We went through all the trials – frost and fire, bullets and a poignant sense of loss – and grew stronger. Now we are several generations ahead of what we used to be. And as a mature Nation, we understand that it takes time to achieve fundamental and systemic changes. Of course, some things cannot be reformed at once, and we may fail to avoid some mistakes and pitfalls, but we Ukrainians never give up and always keep moving forward. And we do it TOGETHER.

It is because we were together on the Maidan, not giving up and going all the way that the Revolution of Dignity succeeded. And one of the most valuable lessons the Maidan has taught us is that we shape our country together, and that only when staying together, with everyone in their own place, working in a fair and responsible manner, we can build the nation that Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred have died for.

Let our Knights of Light and Good who lost their lives on the Maidan live in our memory. We should remember the lessons we have learned, so that their sacrifice will never be in vain.

Today let us also commemorate the sons and daughters of Ukraine, our brave defenders who were killed on the eastern front whither we have carried the Maidan’s barricades.

Heroes never die indeed, for they live in our hearts and thoughts, good deeds and our struggle for the glory of Ukraine and our collective happiness.

Eternal memory and glory to our heroes!

Heroes never die!

Glory to Ukraine!
