At his meeting with Speaker of the Knesset (the Parliament of the State of Israel) Yuli-Yoel Edelstein, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Andriy Parubiy, noted that the visit of the Speaker to Ukraine is very remarkable for Ukraine and is the first visit of such level over the last 23 years.

Among the stages of cooperation between Ukraine and Israel, Parubiy called the most important interstate agreements that have to be discussed and supported by the two parliaments. "In particular, that is the agreement on social assistance. We are expecting the President Petro Poroshenko to table it and I am absolutely sure that it as well as the Agreement on temporary employment in some sectors of labor market of the State of Israel, ratified by the Verkhovna Rada during the previous plenary week, will be supported," he said.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada appreciated the intergovernmental agreement on temporary employment which is a practical example of mutual understanding and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Besides, Parubiy stressed the importance of declaration of the Holodomor (Famine) of 1932-1933 as the genocide of the Ukrainian people by the Israeli Knesset especially on the eve of marking an anniversary of the Holodomor tragedy.

Andriy Parubiy said that the parties also discussed phases of cooperation both at the level of economic and cultural exchange.

In turn Mr. Edelstein thanked for hospitality and high level of organization and holding of the anniversary of the Babyn Yar tragedy.

He said Israel sees Ukraine as a close ally at the international arena and added that the cooperation is being launched at the international level.

At the briefing, Yuli-Yoel Edelstein noted that his visit along with some previous bilateral visits of different levels indicate good relations between the two countries.

He said that the cooperation is held in fields of economy, civil activity, medicine and agriculture.

Mr. Edelstein appreciated the efforts of the Ukrainian Government aimed at keeping the memory of the Holocaust. He called it doubtless that the cooperation between Israel and Ukraine will deepen.

Yuli-Yoel Edelstein expressed hope that the bill on employment will enhance economic benefits from cooperation between the two peoples and regulate illegal visits of labor migrants.
