At its Thursday meeting, the Ukrainian Parliament passed the Declaration of Memory and Solidarity by the Sejm of the Republic of Poland and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the events of World War Two and current aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

At a briefing on Thursday, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Andriy Parubiy, expressed confidence that the Polish Sejm will also pass the Declaration and that the adoption of the document will facilitate settlement of the summer crisis in the Ukrainian-Polish relations.

Andriy Parubiy noted that the Ukrainian Parliament had two ways out of the crisis: either to start mutual accusations or show that both countries have one enemy — the Russian imperialism. At the same time, he noted that the Republic of Lithuania and Poland have always been Ukraine's closest allies in the fight against the Russian aggression.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada thanked Marshal of the Sejm Marek Kuchcinski for deep understanding of the current situation.

According to Andriy Parubiy, the name of the Declaration contains principled position showing historic prospective — "the aggressor that unleashed the war on our lands in 1939 is currently attacking Ukraine that protects the whole free world and aims to become a NATO member." He said Ukraine calls on its European colleagues to take a tougher tack and get rid of the aggressor-pacifying tactics.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada is confident that the declaration will be on everyone's lips in Poland as well. "I believe that the Declaration will be supported in the Polish Parliament," Andriy Parubiy said.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine urged Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Andriy Parubiy, to immediately send the text of the Declaration to the Polish Sejm, United Nations Security Council, United Nations General Assembly, foreign parliaments, parliamentary assemblies and international organizations.
