At the meeting with United States' Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Andrii Parubii thanked the United States for its active part in assisting Ukraine at the international level and in prolongation of the sanctions against the Russian Federation. "The leading position of the United States plays a key part in prolongation of the sanctions against the Russian Federation," he said. He also expressed confidence that the issue of further sanction is of significant importance for the whole world community. "Security system violators must be punished," he said.
Parubii also thanked for the assistance in rehabilitation of the wounded, provision of non-lethal weaponry to Ukraine, holding joint drills with Ukrainian servicemen. At the same time, he expressed hope for the provision of Ukraine with lethal weapons as well.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada informed Ms. Nuland about the escalation of the combat activities in the east of Ukraine. He also noted that the implementation of the Minsk accords is deliberately and openly ignored by the Russian side.
At the same time, Andrii Parubii noted that despite complicated political situation and the armed hostilities, Ukraine managed to implement a number of extremely important reforms, in particular, the judicial reform that envisioned amending of the Ukrainian Constitution. He also said that the Ukrainian Parliament has approved about 10 draft laws required for further cooperation with the International Monetary Fun, managed to reform the Ukrainian army on the eve of the NATO summit, approved a number of important social laws.
In turn, United States' Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland expressed concern over the escalation in the east of Ukraine.
Ms. Nuland welcomed the adoption of the constitutional amendments touching justice by the Verkhovna Rada and said the reforms in Ukraine have been implemented the way it was announced in April.
She also informed about the intention of the Presidents of Ukraine and the United States to meet at the NATO summit in Warsaw (the Republic of Poland) on July 8-9, 2016.
