"I am confident that the European Union and Ukraine have great joint present and the future," Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Groysman said at a briefing after the signature of the Memorandum of understanding between the European Parliament and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on a joint framework for parliamentary support and capacity building on Friday.

Groysman thanked Schulz for "his momentous visit" to Ukraine as well as for taking floor in the walls of the Ukrainian Parliament.

Speaking about the signed document, Groysman said the Memorandum precisely determines the support to reformation of the Ukrainian Parliament as to consolidation of its capacity, transparency and openness.

The Head of the Verkhovna Rada noted that "the parliamentary Ukraine-EU Committee will play an important part in implementation of the Memo."

Groysman expressed gratitude to the European Parliament and personally to its President for the support to territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.

In turn President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz noted that his visit to Ukraine "is symbolic." "The visit underlines our striving for assisting Ukraine in every reform, in every action," he said.

The President of the European Parliament said that the Memorandum on mutual understanding "is the second step on our joint way to European unity" after synchronous ratification of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.
