The UA Parliament’s senior staff and spokesmen of the factions and groups met Kurt Volker, US Special Rep for Ukraine Negotiations  

On September 14, being chaired by Andriy Parubiy, there was a big meeting between Ukrainian Rada’s leadership, representatives of the factions, groups and parliamentary committees and – Kurt D Volker, the United States Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations.

At the meeting, there was a broad exchange of views upon the security and humanitarian situation in the Donbas and Crimea; the parties also assessed the risks of implementing the Nord Stream 2 – the Kremlin’s political project, which is capable of strengthening the EU's energy dependency on Russia. The security situation in the Azov Sea region was also discussed as well as possible provocations of the Russian Federation and Russian interference in the electoral campaign in Ukraine.

During the meeting, there was also debated the state of play in implementing reforms in Ukraine, and the US special representative was informed that the parliament is about to consider bills on the secret society and humanitarian demining at the current parliamentary session.

Particular attention was paid to de-occupation of the Crimea and a peaceful settlement of the situation in the Donbas.

The participants of the meeting shared their experiences across the new landscape and outlook for the implementation of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Donbas and extension of the law on the peculiarities of local self-government in certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts.

In the course of the sitting, there was emphasized  the importance of extending the sanction policy against Russia until full de-occupation of the Ukrainian territory and release of all the illegally detained Ukrainian citizens – both in the occupied Donbas and Crimea, as well as the Russian Federation – are attained.

Kurt Volker pointed out the important role of the Parliament in reforming the country, in particular the security and defence sector, the energy sector and the decentralization of power reform.

The guest thanked the parliamentarians for the open dialogue and assured that the United States remains a reliable partner of Ukraine in restoring its territorial integrity.

The meeting was also attended by MPs: Iryna Herashchenko, Hanna Hopko, Mariia Ionova, Artur Herasimov, Andrii Teteruk, Oleksandr Vilkul, Yehor Soboliev, Oleh Liashko, Viktor Vovk, Serhii Soboliev, Valerii Pysarenko,  Yevhen Rybchynskyi - and the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the United States to Ukraine Marie L. Yovanovitch, the US-UA special envoy’s adviser Christopher Anderson, and Stephen Glazer, U.S. Embassy Kyiv’s Political Section.
