Iryna Herashchenko has greeted the foreign ministry’s initiative to join the HeForShe international movement

On September 12, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine became the first governmental agency to join the international gender equality movement HeForShe and announced 2019 to be a gender audit year.

The said UN initiative is intended to encourage men to uphold women's rights and to create a society of equal opportunities for all.

"Under Russian aggression, we must use all the society’s cohesion, we need everyone.  I want to say to everybody that we are not going to play arithmetic.  It's about a human being, how we feel each other," said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin during the presser. P. Klimkin also expressed his hopes that a few women would soon join those women - the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassadors of Ukraine, who represent the interests of our state abroad.

"Increasing representation of women in politics, their involvement in decision making is a powerful accelerator for positive changes in the political and economic spheres.  We are ready to cooperate with the Ministry for the further introduction of gender equality,” pointed out I.Herashchenko.

The First Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Iryna Herashchenko expressed her hope that other ministries and departments would soon join the said international movement for gender equality.  The event was also attended by Mariia Ionova, co-chair of the Equal Opportunities Caucus.
