This event aims to direct international development initiatives to new levels of awareness and capacity.

The conference brings together more than 150 parliamentarians from about 100 countries, including civil society leaders and partner organizations, leading officials from a number of international financial institutions such as the World Bank, the IMF, and regional development banks.  The main speakers of the event are IMF Managing Director and World Bank Group President.

During the meetings, there will be discussed a number of important issues regarding further cooperation with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

Background

Co-organized by the World Bank Group (WBG), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and IMF, the Global Parliamentary Conference is the flagship event, bringing together some 200 Parliamentarians from World Bank and IMF member countries, partner parliamentary organizations, in addition to top officials from the World Bank and the IMF. The Global Conference is also an opportunity to identify the Network’s policy foci for the upcoming years.

The Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (the PN) was initially founded in 2000 as an independent, non-governmental organization providing a platform for Parliamentarians from all IMF and WB member countries to advocate for increased accountability and transparency in development cooperation. The Parliamentary Network has over 1000 parliamentarians in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas, supported by its international secretariat and guided by its Board. The PN has unique access to the World Bank and the IMF and many PN activities are undertaken in partnership with the IMF and the World Bank, including its Global Conference, which also doubles as its General Assembly.
