‘We do count on Slovakia’s support in keeping sanctions against Russia,’ – Iryna Herashchenko

“We reckon upon Slovakia’s assistance in maintaining solidarity within the EU with regard to pursuance of the sanction policies against Russia until the entire restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity,” stressed the First Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Iryna Herashchenko at a meeting with the Slovak friendship group delegation.

The First Vice-Speaker thanked the Slovak delegates for their sustained support of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, and after a short review over the current security and humanitarian situation in the Donbas, pointed out Ukraine presently stands for the joint stance in the United Nations and other international platforms, including inter-parliamentary ones.

It was also stressed the deployment of the UN peacekeeping mission throughout the east of Ukraine was a precondition for a peaceful settlement of the situation. Taking the opportunity, the Ukrainian politician invited the Slovak parliamentarians to visit the Donbas to see the whole situation by their own eyes.

In the course of the meeting, there was also discussed the need in boosting the inter-parliamentary ties between Ukraine and Slovakia.

Iryna Herashchenko then at length informed the Slovak side of the task at hand for the Ukrainian Parliament – a range of reforms in pension, education, medical, state budget and electoral spheres, as well as gender equality.

In turn, the Slovak delegation head Mikulas Kraikovich assured the Ukrainian party in further support of Ukraine. “I do believe despite the threats Ukraine will continue to develop economically and politically. We apprehend the acuity of the challenges Ukraine is being faced, and we can assure Slovakia will continue to assist Ukraine,” said the head of the Slovak delegation.
