The Head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Hanna Hopko held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Ukraine Hossam El-deen M.Aly.

During the meeting the sides discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation. The parties noted the importance of further deepening Ukrainian-Egyptian relations, particularly in political, legal, trade and economic spheres.

The Ukrainian party informed the Ambassador of submitting to the United Nations General Assembly a new resolution on the human rights condition in the Crimea and the city of Sevastopol’, and made a request to support it. There was also pointed out the need in further strengthening the inter-parliamentary ties.

Worthy of note

The Arab Republic of Egypt officially recognized Ukraine as an independent state on January 3, 1992. Diplomatic relations between the two states had been established on January 25, 1992. Ukraine was among the first former Soviet Union republics in which in May 1993 diplomatic mission of Egypt was inaugurated. Ukrainian Embassy in Cairo was inaugurated on September 1, 1993.
