“The Ukraine-Uzbekistan relations are on the rise. A close collaboration in economy, culture and education spheres may be one of the compelling evidences of that positive development,” said Pavlo Ungurian, head of the inter-parliamentary group for liaison with the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The states marked the 25th anniversary of their diplomatic ties on the day which tallied exactly with the day of Uzbekistan’s Independence. On the occasion of this double-holiday, there was a state reception with a host of high-ranking guests of honour. A moving complimentary address was delivered to the guests by Alisher Abdualiyev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Republic of Uzbekistan to Ukraine, where it was said the mutual cooperation development was being significantly promoted by the hardships both countries suffered.

The member of Parliament Pavlo Ungurian stressed the countries had been tied by years of friendship, collaboration and mutual assistance; he also read out the greeting address of the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

The mutual relations between Ukraine and Uzbekistan were established in 1992, with focus on international policy, economy, education, science, and culture spheres. Ukraine is one of the largest foreign trade partners of Uzbekistan. Bilateral relations between two countries are based on 142 treaties and agreements, which encompass various spheres. Since 1991 the President of Uzbekistan has paid six visits to Ukraine and the President of Ukraine has paid four visits to Uzbekistan.

In 2016 the trade turnover reached the amount of $254 million.
