The committee has had a roundtable on “The New Power Strategy of Ukraine: Investments and Challenges”

The event was organized in combination with the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine.

It was noticed there the Parliament of Ukraine of 8th convocation had adopted the basic energy laws legally enabling the European Union’s Third Energy Package requirements, and the Cabinet had approved the Ukraine's Energy Strategy until 2035. Hence, the country is now faced to the new goals like creation of full-function natural gas and e-power marketplaces according to the EU standards.

The key tasks of the new energy strategy are focused on gas production gain, cutback in Ukraine’s GDP power-intensity and further development of renewable energy. The above governmental decisions are important preconditions for attracting energy investments.

The roundtable talking parties were also a number of MPs, high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine, “Energy and Ecology” subgroup of the European Commission Support Group for Ukraine, the European Investment Bank, USAID, the EU delegation in Ukraine, the Energy Community Secretariat, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, embassies of the USA, Norway, Hungary, Czechia, France, FRG, Japan and Canada. The event was also attended by the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine, the National JSC “Naftogaz” of Ukraine, Ukrgazvydobuvannia, the Public JSC “Ukrtransgaz”, the State Enterprise “National Nuclear Energy Generating Company “Energoatom”, the State enterprise National Power Company “UkrEnergo”, the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management, the State enterprise “Energorynok”.

Data of interest. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has passed a cluster of basic energy laws of Ukraine, namely: “On natural gas marketplace”, “On the National Regulatory Commission for Energy and Utilities”, “On electric power marketplace”. Adoption of the above laws is one of the Ukraine’s (as a member of the Energy Community) obligations under the EU Association agreement and other treaties with the European Atomic Energy Community and its member countries.
