One committee is today in focus:

Committee on National Security and Defence

…has approved its work plan for the 7th session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The hearings scheduled: on reforms in military education, training cadres within a defense reform, alterations in information security legislation in the context of the nation state security; a roundtable on laws to regulate export capability of defense-industrial sector, etc.

The draft bill No.6051 amends the military laws in order to harmonize them with the anti-corruption legislation of Ukraine. The committee recommends the Parliament to take it on the first reading.

Three alternate draft bills under No.6268, 6268-1, 6268-2 on uplifting of social protection for servicemen were considered by the committee. The draft bills regulate once-off financial aid payouts to families of servicemen deceased after transfer to the reserve (dismissal) once their death resulted from wound, contusion, mutilation or malady related to the service. The core difference of the triplet is a time gap between the dismissal and the death considered for the payouts. The committee after fierce debates decided to approve the bill No.6268-1 allowing for a reasonable one-year term of the time gap.

The draft bill No.6109 granting equal rights for men and women serving in the military was also viewed. The bill was recommended for the Verkhovna Rada to be taken on the first reading.
