One committee is today in focus:

Committee on Human Rights, National Minorities and Interethnic Relations

…has heard the ombudsman’s report on realization of the national preventive mechanism in 2016.

The committee recommended the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to accept, on the first reading, the draft bill No.6142 on provision of the basic rights and freedoms to internally displaced persons with regards of protection of the housing rights to students, and the draft bill No.6228 on restoration of the rights to persons deported by ethnic origin tabled by the Cabinet.

There was also the discriminatory policy of the Cabinet concerning the forced out-migrants and the Ukrainian citizens still remaining in the Crimea and in the temporarily occupied territories discussed at the meeting. The committeemen heard a special report of the Ukrainian ombudsman “Monitoring of unfreedom places in Ukraine: The national preventive mechanism in 2016”.

There were the plan of operations of the Committee on Human Rights, National Minorities and Interethnic Relations and the agenda proposals for the seventh session of the Parliament of the eighth convocation discussed during the sitting.

The Committee delegated Valerii Patskan, the First Deputy Head of the Committee to participate in the initial conference of the Parliamentary network on diaspora policies (September 7-8, 2017, Lisbon, Portugal).

The Committee on Human Rights, National Minorities and Interethnic Relations approved its recommendations over the roundtable “The Rightless and Forgotten: Ukrainian Citizens in Unfreedom Places over the Uncontrolled Territories (the Crimea, Donbas)” held by the Committee on July 10, 2017.

It was then agreed to have the committee’s hearings over activities of the law-enforcement agencies and their harmonization with the appropriate international regulations and practices.

The sitting was attended by the Committee’s head Hryhorii Nemyria, Valerii Patskan, the First Deputy Head of the Committee, Heorhii Lohvynskyi, the Deputy Head of the Committee, the Committee’s members Mustafa Dzhemiliev, Iryna Suslova, Oleksandr Feldman and Refat Chubarov.
