At the Parliament premises, there has been conducted a roundtable meeting on how Ukraine can stop the Nord Stream 2 project

Triggered off by the head of the foreign affairs committee Hanna Hopko and with input from a research establishment “The Energy Industry Research Center” (EIR Center), there was held  on August 27 a roundtable themed “How to Stop the Nord Stream 2: Ukraine’s mission”.

The sitting was attended by members of parliament, diplomats and all kinds of experts.

In H.Hopko’s speech the importance of Ukraine’s national interests protection was highlighted.

The President of the Centre for Global Studies “Strategy XXI” Mykhailo Honchar, the U.S.Department of State’s European energy security advisor Benjamin Schmitt, together with Yurii Vitrenko, the chief commercial officer at “Naftogaz Group”, stressed in their roundtable speeches the need to counteract politically motivated projects in the energy sector, such as the Nord Stream 2.  They also emphasized the importance of developing the EU energy market, implementation of decisions that enable Ukraine to meet the European Union’s Third Energy Package and strengthen Europe's energy security. Among other things, the speakers stressed the necessity for further implementation of sanctions policy against those companies involved in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 and the counteraction to the dissemination of disinformation of the Russian gas monopoly.

Their own say in the above discussion had also Volodymyr Ariev, MP, the head of the Sub-Committee on Inter-parliamentary Cooperation, Bilateral and Multilateral Relations of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the leader of the UA Permanent Parliamentary Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Svitlana Zalishchuk, the head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs’ Sub-Committee on European and Euro-Atlantic Relations and Andrii Levus, the head of the Sub-Committee on State Security of the Committee on National Security and Defence. The speakers underscored the pressing need to return the issue into the international legal system and the importance of the transatlantic accord in counteracting the Nord Stream 2 project.
