The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy opened the morning session.

Opening the plenary meeting, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada A.Parubiy congratulated the police on the National Police Day of Ukraine.

The Chairman gave the floor to representatives of parliamentary factions and groups who then made their announcements, statements, reports, and proposals.

Parliamentarians set about work over the business of the day.

They gave consideration to the bill No.7064 concerning a set of laws of Ukraine on prevention of road fatalities. By 240 ayes the bill was adopted on the first reading.

After the break, members of parliament switched over to legislative amendments to the Customs code of Ukraine and other domestic laws relative to triggering a ‘single window’ mechanism and streamlining the checking procedures used against goods transiting across the customs border of Ukraine, presented under the bill No.7010. 142 amendments were done away with by the tail of the meeting. The amendments work shall continue at the next sitting.

On reducing traffic mortality: Draft bill No.7062

On the first reading, there has been taken the bill amending certain laws of Ukraine touching upon precluding traffic-related deaths.

The bill offers to give another turn to penal responsibility for traffic violations, vehicle misuse and reckless driving by persons under the influence of alcohol, drugs or other intoxicants. The bill is understood to change and toughen the Criminal Code of Ukraine as well as the law of Ukraine on the fundamentals of the national security by putting ineffective state safety traffic policies and leap in car accidents among overt threats to the national interests and security.
