The First Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Iryna Herashchenko met with John Hannaford, Assistant Secretary to the Cabinet (Foreign and Defence Policy)

Within the framework of a parliamentary friendship group visit to Canada headed by the First Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Iryna Herashchenko, there took place a meeting with John Hannaford, Assistant Secretary to the Cabinet (Foreign and Defence Policy).

The politician thanked Canada for its consistent position at the G7 summit regarding impossibility for Russia to return to the club of leading democracies of the world without implementation of the Minsk Agreements - reintegration of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, release of all illegally detained Ukraine’s citizens, implementation of other issues set forth in the TCG’s agenda.

Iryna Herashchenko notified John Hannaford about the current security, humanitarian and environmental situation in the Donbas, drawing his attention to systemic violations of the human rights throughout the occupied Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, and in the Crimea as well.  

During the meeting, the participants exchanged their views on the UN peacekeeping mission in the Donbas.

"Canada consistently supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, and all its initiatives are aimed at returning peace," stated I. Herashchenko after meeting with John Hannaford.

During the meeting, the Ukrainian parliamentarians were accompanied by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Canada Andrii Shevchenko (shown in the picture).
